Exclusive Artist Interview With Drew Moreland

Drew Moreland has a very interesting backstory and is rising fast on the Texas Music Scene. I had the opportunity to interview Drew after a Monday night showcase I host at the Old Ironhorse Saloon in Blanco, Texas. We sat in front of the fireplace there after his performance and got down to the REAL story behind this Texas Musician.

THE INTERVIEW:

ABOUT DREW

Born on January 12th, 1984 in San Antonio, TX, Drew Moreland was raised in a city with many converging cultures. Despite growing up in what is now the 7th largest city in the United States, Drew's life was grounded by his parents who both came from a small farming community. From an early age, he enjoyed listening to music and playing it came naturally. Drew currently resides in Marion, TX

BAND BEGININGS

Drew Moreland and the Neon Hustle got its start in the spring of 2016 as a songwriting project between Drew and his brother-in-law Garland (Lee) Wenner. At the time, there were no intentions to actually start a band. It wasn’t until Drew was invited to play country music at a summer event that a band materialized to play some of the songs they had written.

RECORDING

Drew's self titled debut album was recorded in the single-wide trailer where he lives in Marion, TX. This project has a darker/ grittier tone and covers some more serious subject matter than previously released singles. The writing process for the songs on this album was mixed, mostly co-written with Garland Lee Wenner and Matthew Parker. But, also includes material that Drew wrote while spending time on the road alone (Road Stone, Prayer of an Outlaw & North Wind).

PLAYING LIVE

Drew Moreland tours with his band, The Neon Hustle, and also as a solo acoustic act. Playing several nights every week, Drew made over 250 live performances in 2017. His live show has been received well by all (with the exception of a few disgruntled Cajuns who didn't like the song about Louisiana).
